Dear diary,
I met up with Bridget Jones today after many years. She looks old, pretty old actually. At 43, she is having a baby but her bumbling persona remains all the same despite her changed (read wrinkled) face.
Nothing around her seems to have changed except for the fact that despite her plus-size craziness, she is still a tall executive with a TV company and does pretty well for herself.
Personal life? Well, she is still looking for solace with one man but gets many, actually three, to her bed and spends a whole lot of time — actually the entire movie — trying to figure out who the father of her impending child really is.
As fathers for this late coming baby are concerned, you must give it to Bridget, they are all dishy men with deep pockets. Of course there is the long lost Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) with his quizzical undertoned charm. He wants her but she knows work is his first worship.
Then there is the extremely flamboyant love algorithm mathematician (Patrick Dempsey) who has had a romp in the bed with our very own Bridget and can never forget her despite her vanishing in the morning act.
By the way both the romps, and there may have been a third one too, coincide with the baby’s gestation if you don’t mind.
So goes on the movie bumbling between two men and their pregnant babe in her all-English environ.
Diary, the problem with this good old Bridget is that she draws all the life from nostalgia of her previous lives in previous movies. There is very little to keep the flesh on her story, unlike her well padded backside.
Sweet, erratic romances are good to spend time with even if they tend to be sluggish. Here are moments which only our very own Renee Zellweger can evoke and her diary entries can explain. So this Bridget is only for loyal followers.
So long diary.... so long Bridget.

Criminal: Arresting memory transplant

Cast : Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Ryan Reynolds, Jordi Mollà Rated : 6/10 Big names, big imagination and good execution make this memory transplant thriller a good one to be with, especially with Kevin Costner doing a pretty good job with a character he has never played – that of an emotionless, incarcerated, brutal killer in whose brain a do-good, wife and daughter loving dead CIA’s agent’s (Ryan Reynolds) remembrances are inserted for a trail that is important for the organisation. The underdone role has been handled well by Costner, much like a successful experiment. As he gets acquainted with emotions of love, caring and affection that have been alien to him, he starts turning from a monster to a human being but the director does well to not completely erase his original personality. *ing: Rahul Bhat, Richa Chadda, Aditi Rao Hydari, Saurabh Shukla, Vineet Kumar Singh, Dilip Tahil, Anurag Kashyap Rated: 7/10 If there is Devdas, Hamlet and Sudhir Mishra embedded in the film, would it not mean that there are lofty ambitions that the movie and its maker savour? Daas Dev is built up wantonly on these there distinctly different pillars and tries to find a balance despite the vast distance of genres that it straddles and moulds. The delightful thing about the film, however, is that it does not take these names in vain and using “inspirational value” from all the three concocts a syrupy political thriller that is high on energy, engaging and never out of sequence. That is Mishra’s cinematic acumen but also the over-confidence of pulling it through at play.
