Aurangzeb: Makes its mark

You would have thought this will be a “so-called” thriller. Not really. The story here is the ultimate winner and though a tad slow for a thriller genre, Aurangzeb scores with a near gripping tale of a gangster, his informer wife, his cop paramour, a huge business empire and the tale of twin sons and a stepson.
Not a single character here is out of place and the supporting cast actually hold the film together. Though in a relatively small role, Rishi Kapoor as a ruthless cop with huge business ambitions, turns in a stellar performance as an understated man of no scruples whatsoever. Money is his only God and he can kill for that — kill even family!
But he is just a sideshow. Arjun Kapoor, in a double role, finds his feet in a film that revolves around him. Jackie Shroff looks adequately unstable on his feet as an aged gangster missing his wife and son. On the whole, the film gets away with some glitches, thanks to a tight script and good editing.

Criminal: Arresting memory transplant

Cast : Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Ryan Reynolds, Jordi Mollà Rated : 6/10 Big names, big imagination and good execution make this memory transplant thriller a good one to be with, especially with Kevin Costner doing a pretty good job with a character he has never played – that of an emotionless, incarcerated, brutal killer in whose brain a do-good, wife and daughter loving dead CIA’s agent’s (Ryan Reynolds) remembrances are inserted for a trail that is important for the organisation. The underdone role has been handled well by Costner, much like a successful experiment. As he gets acquainted with emotions of love, caring and affection that have been alien to him, he starts turning from a monster to a human being but the director does well to not completely erase his original personality.
