Paddington: Give this one a real bear hug

He is from the darkest insides of Peru. He is a bear but he can into London, talk like the English do and sport manners that will leave a gentleman with some questions about himself. To top it all, he is called Paddington, as in the well-known underground. He is here to find a home after his groovy shelter hanging from a tree in a Peruvian jungle is destroyed in an earthquake.
And if he is all this, he is also fodder for evil animal stuffers — like our very own Nicole Kidman who is after Paddington as a mission in life after her good hearted explorer father refuses to bring in one after an expedition to Peru all those years ago. But that’s another story altogether, as in, only the flesh of this film which thankfully, delightfully and quite playfully centres around the cute bear cub.
Paddington has all the ouvres needed to ensnare you, even when he is bringing out loadfuls of ear wax with a toothbrush and licking it to disastrous effect. This bear comes with a “take care of this bear” tag around him but he is full of tricks of the trade to draw your emotions out. When he is lost, he is endearing, when he is funny, he really makes you laugh, when he is familial, he compels you to yearn for your near and dear ones and when he is a bear — well, then he is all the fun, Mr Brown’s risk fears notwithstanding.
This one is a special one, with special people around him, creating special situations, living in special times and breathing a special kind of humour and magic. Don’t mistake this one as only for the children. The child in every adult will love this one from the heart. The special effects are so amazing that you might fight your mind to declare this one is a real bear, not the stuffed variety that hugs your bedpost.

Criminal: Arresting memory transplant

Cast : Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Ryan Reynolds, Jordi Mollà Rated : 6/10 Big names, big imagination and good execution make this memory transplant thriller a good one to be with, especially with Kevin Costner doing a pretty good job with a character he has never played – that of an emotionless, incarcerated, brutal killer in whose brain a do-good, wife and daughter loving dead CIA’s agent’s (Ryan Reynolds) remembrances are inserted for a trail that is important for the organisation. The underdone role has been handled well by Costner, much like a successful experiment. As he gets acquainted with emotions of love, caring and affection that have been alien to him, he starts turning from a monster to a human being but the director does well to not completely erase his original personality. Staring:  Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris, Jeremy Reyner & Rebecca Ferguson Rated : 8/10 Last time Ethan Hunt had your jaw dropping and you praying fervently for his life when mounted the sky scraping Burj Khalifa in Dubai to dangle from dizzying heights.
