MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN: Good for a light evening out
Staring: Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ali Zafar, others
At: DT Cinemas & others
Rated: 6/10
It has its starpower, something that you would always expect from a YRF banner. It also has its music which again you take for granted with a YRF film. It has its fun element, its engaging exterior, its locale and its showstopper heroine.
So far so good. But does it have oodles of romance? Not really — it pegs itself more on fun and frolic, more on comic interludes, more on song and dance than on romance.
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, as the title would suggest, is all about, well, brother’s dulhan andchhotey bhai’s romance with her. That would suggest a comedy and it does not disappoint. Katrina is the showstopper though purists would say she acts like a silly school girl. Personally, she is engaging in her role as is the poker-faced Imran Khan who draws the punches for his role from his straight face and straighter personality. But together, the two etch quite a trajectory around their peek-a-boo romance budding amid unsuspecting family and friends preparing for a wedding that was at least not Imran’s.
Ali Zafar, as the brother from London, who decides to get an arranged match in India after he gets fed up of his live in girlfriend, is refreshing — and not just as an actor. His rendering of the happy go lucky Madhubala song lends a lot to this one by director Ali Abbas Zafar.
On the whole, MBKD is good for a light evening out with friends, popcorn and the pushback chairs. Katrina lives up to expectations, music director Suhail Sen does a good job to keep up the crescendo and Ali Abbas keeps the storyline pretty much smooth.
